TMDSCNCD28388D: ControlCard Heat-up

Part Number: TMDSCNCD28388D

Hi Team,

Our customer is currently using the TMDSCNCD28388D together with its docking station. The board is working as expected but they're experiencing some heat-up issues in some components of the controlcard, particularly on the F28335 MCU and the FTDI chip. Both chips gets hot but not to the point that they can't physically touch it, but the heat-up issue occurs even without much use of the controlcard. Even upon power-up, it gets hot at once. Does this imply a possible issue to the hardware?

Kind Regards,

Jejomar

  • Jejomar,

From my experience operating at room temp the device should be slightly warmer than the ambient temperature. I typically only execute on one core, but do usually load that one core pretty heavily. Of course as you operate more cores and modules more current will be consumed and thus raising the temperature of the EVM.

All that being said it sounds like the customer's device is too hot. Customers seem to most often damage these by ESD or EOS. However in my experience I find it very difficult to damage these devices with ESD.

    Regards,

    Cody
