TMS320F28388D: F28388D compatibility with DP83640 Ethernet PHY

Part Number: TMS320F28388D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DP83640, DP83826E, C2000WARE

Hi,

is the F28388D compatible with TI DP83640 Ethernet PHY (HW aspect) and would a designer be able to implement a system leveraging TI RTOS from a SW stand-point.

Any examples to point to?

thanks

Olivier

  • Olivier,

I don't see any issues with using DP83640. This device appears to have some advanced features, if they customer just needs an ethernet PHY then I would point them to the following recommendation taken from the UG.

    "

The control card uses DP83822 10/100M Ethernet PHY  for EtherCAT communication. The PHY has low round trip ( TX+RX) latency of  242 ns and robust EMI/EMC performance.  DP83826E/I as alternate 10/100M Ethernet PHY is also recommended for this design. DP83826E has further improved performance on Latency and deterministic latency of < 216 ns +/- 2ns and fixed XI to TX_CLK clock phase +/- 2ns and robust EMI/EMC performance making it suitable for real time application. For more details, please refer to DP83826 datasheet at following link

    "

Please note that DP83826 is a QFN device not QFP, but it is significantly cheaper.

As for software examples please look in C2000Ware:
