Hi to everyone!

After buying the evaluation board, I've made my own Three Phase BLDC Motor Kit with DRV8312 and F28069M, following schematics and removing switches and unnecessary - for me - connectors to save space. I can program with the FTDI the MCU and also interact with him. But, when I try to run the lab 2b of instaspin labs, to identify the motor parameters, a problem appears. The identification cannot complete. The Rs identification phase seems to be ok, and the motor spins, but when the Rated Flux and Ls identification phase starts, the motor stops and starts vibrating. Does anybody know if there are some parameters of user.h - e.g. offset voltages and currents ... - that could affect to my PCB? Any idea will be great! I don't know what to do!

Just bought DRV8301 EVM. My final goal is to build one ESC for multicopter motors (U8-100).
Can you post your schematic diagram?

Albert,
I would first suggest you review the voltage and current sensing circuits. Are they appropriate per SPRUHJ1 chapter 5?
Did you update user.h appropriately for these new values?
did you set the current polarity correct?
did you set the FILTER_POLE in user.h correct?

The BOOSTXL-DRV8301 is a good start for a hobby style design. This student based his ESC on the BoosterPack

We will probably be releasing a single PCB based design (not a kit, just the design files) later this year which will be a great starting point.

This is wonderful news. I work with multicopters for many years.
For the new 24 to 36 pole motors (like U100 series) it is almost no reliable ESC in the market!!!

Almost all ESC's in the market can not even start spinning this motor with 27'' to 29'' propeller.
With this type of motors one can hover easy between 60 to 90+ minutes.

you're talking about a Gimbal motor?

Those aren't mean for propeller drive. They are high pole count meant for step drive (they use them for pseudo position control to move cameras in an roll-pitch-yaw). The one you linked to is only 100 KV. That means it will only rotate at 100 RPM for every volt. And they usually are very low current designs. But lots of poles to increase the torque.

Are people trying to use these for propeller propulsion?

oh, I see they are using these for propellers.
Sure, no problem to make an InstaSPIN design for these, it will work really well for propulsion.

for Gimbal use IntasSPIN-FOC won't. I've looked at this a little, and for sensorless (no rotor feedback) I think an open loop micro-stepping approach would have to be used to achieve the ultra slow movements required for the cameras.

these motors are EXPENSIVE also! Wow!

Which problem?

Certainly an encoder can provide rotor mechanical angle feedback during places (zero and low speeds) where FAST can not provide rotor flux angle feedback estimations. Encoders are typically necessary for very low speeds or precise position control. Sensorless observers (FAST being the best) are used for torque and velocity applications away from zero speed.
