TMS320F28388D: F2838X Launchpad

Part Number: TMS320F28388D

Hello.

We are very interested in using the new F2838X family, since we could benefit with the Ethernet  connectivity.

Will you launch a Launchpad version of this chip, so we could develop a prototype with our existing sensors?

    Good to hear that you are interested!

    Currently there is not a plan to release a F2838x LaunchPad. There is the F2838x ControlCard evaluation board available however. Please see at the link below:

    Of course, but it i not the same interface, nor the same pinout, so we would need to develop our board again. Plus, there is no way to just stuck any other sensor board on top of it.

    If we need to develop a new device, we will look into another vendors with Linux+AI graphic chipset.

    I think the Launchpad ecosystem would be a great form factor or this 2838X family.

    Hi,

    As Kevin mentions, we've made the decision to not make a LaunchPad for the device, at this point.  This is because a large amount of the changes from F2837xD & F2838xD are features like ENET/ECAT which would take a large amount of board space and/or a large amount of additional pins.  Being there is a LaunchPad standard for all of TI, the LaunchPad ecosystem can't 't really accommodate to enable us to show these features.  Therefore the value of us doing a F2838xD LaunchPad was reduced - and with it our assumption of interest from the market.

    What features are you looking to use on the F2838xD that doesn't exist in the F2837xD?

    Note that one could theoretically depopulate the F28379D on the F2837xD LaunchPad, and replace it with a F2838xD device.

    The Ethernet port.

    We come from the ARM M4 Tiva family, and in our radar design, the Ethernet comm port is used as a high speed FFT debugging and logging port, besides from a remote connection controller. Both an external app and control center communicate wih the chip.

    After that we developed a more complex solution, where a C2000 F29379D chip was used, and on the same board we mounted another Tiva device for the same purpose. We communicated those chips via SPI, but you need to mount two chips, a  growing BOM and double software.

    We would benefit highly in our developed prototypes from this chip.

    Thanks, PAk.  That makes sense & I'm glad to see that the F28388D looks to be a good fit for your application!

    Things could feasibly change with increased interest, but at this point we don't have a plan to do this.  Sorry to not have better news.
