Safety certifications for TI utilities?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: HALCOGEN

Hi,

We're getting ready for the safety certification process on our TMS570 based systems.  The question has come up as to what level of certification, if any, have the TI tools undergone?  I'm concerned with things like the NHET assembler, the PLL calculator, HALCoGen, etc.  We're educating ourselves about the requirements for certification, so we just need to know if there's anything to be concerned about using these tools.  Thanks for any info you can provide.

  • Hello Marco,

For most safety standards, tools used in the development of safety critical products do not go through a certification process.  A certification would generally imply that the tool has been developed as a software element compliant to the standard.  Instead, standards such as IEC 61508 and ISO 26262 have the concept of tool qualification.  A tool qualification is an activity carried out by the user of the tool to evaluate potential impact of the tool on safety development.

In some cases, a tool provider will offer a package of detailed information to support a customer's tool qualification activity.  TI's compiler team expects to release such a package shortly for our ARM compiler.

I am forwarding your question to our software tools manager for any additional comments.

    Best Regards,

    Karl
