XDS200 & TMS570LC43xx & GDB

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS570LS3137, TMS570LC4357

Hello,

I want to find any documentation how to create "board" configuration file for XDS200 & TMS570LC43xx & GDB agent combination. Or where is possible find any documented "board" cfg file examples for GDB?

GDB come from http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS_Emulation_Software_Package. But it not contain one line of documentation.

Lack of documentation was main reason, why we made decision to not use CCS. Therefore we are using JLink & GDB for debug. But JLlink haven't support to flash TMS570LC43xx yet. Therefore I would like to find another way, how to use XDS200 without CCS.

With XDS100 I has problem to debug, because combination of XDS100 & GDB wasn't  support HW breakpoints. Is it same for XDS200? (It is not possible find in documentation, because it not exist)

PS: Lack of documnetation for SW tools from TI is serious problem to certify solution based on really successful "Security MCus" and SW from TI.

  • Jiri,

I've forwarded your question to our debugger team.

They will be back to you as soon as possible.

  • Hi Jiri

We have created a references page for the XDS GDB Agent. Please find more details from the following link.

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php?title=XDS_GDB_Agent

The http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS_Emulation_Software_Package page has also been updated with a GDB Agent patch and you should not see any issues with the HW breakpoints.

Please let us know if there are more questions here.

  • Hi Vikas,

Thanks for information. I really need page like this.
But it solve only one part of problem. Your how-to need installed CCS and we are not using CCS (We has many reasons to this decision).
Exist some way, how to create "board" file without CCS? Simply because using 30 day evaluation license is not proper way.

    Jiri

  • Hi Jiri

Given the dependency and internal details of JTAG scan topology, we strongly recommend CCS usage to generate the file. I understand your view of CCS independent way of creating such board config file but we don't have one today and we need to do some work to enable that.

Meanwhile, If you let me know the devices and XDS type you are using, I can get the config files to you to unblock you. Once you have the files, you can tweak them for other XDS types as well (which is trivial).

  • Hi Vikas,

thanks for your support. At this moment I need board file for two configurations.

We are using Herkules HDK board at this moment. It is project to update our board based on TMS570LS3137, but we waiting to hw modifications)

    Configurations are two:

    • Herkules HDK with TMS570LC4357 and external XDS200. (temporary development platform)
    • Herkules HDK with TMS570LC4357 and build-in XDS100 (only for testing, XDS100 is realy slow.)

I hope, that I will able to tweak this configuration when own HW will be available.

    Many thanks,

    Jiri

  • Please find the attachment with the two board configuration files.

Again, sorry for the trouble and please keep me posted if you need more help here.

  • Hi Vikas,

Thanks for support. I will test it later, because I am not in my office now.
I "verify" your answer. It look that you know what are you doing :-)

    Have a nice day,

    Jiri
