MSP430F5529: opt3101evm ToF sensor calibration using launchpad F5529 and Jtag debugger

Hello everyone!

I'm using opt3101evm sensor (ToF sensor) and i saw that MSP430F5529 is recommended to communicate with the sensor.

i'm also saw that Jtag MSPFET debugger is recommended to use in order to debug and to receive an indication in the port terminal (im using tera term).

i connected the JTAG debugger to the PC, and connect the JTAG to the launchpad MSP430F5529 as you can see in the image below:

and the launchpad i connect to the opt3101evm as write in the SDK user guide:

the opt3101evm sensor and the launchpad are not connect to the PC! just the JTAG debugger.

The question are:

1) When i try to connect to the MSP430 it write "error connecting to the target: Unknown device". maybe the connection are wrong?

2) Do i have to change something in the SDK in order calibrate opt3101evm?

3) if everything is connection well, i have to get an indication through the port terminal yes?

please i need help, im about 3 weeks on it and im not find anything about the calibration process of opt3101evm using mspF5529 and mspfet Debugger.

  • I haven't tried running a Launchpad from an MSP-FET -- the ez-FET on-board the Launchpad was always quite adequate (not to mention simpler). That said, it seems that it should work.

    Also, that Launchpad doesn't look like any F5529 Launchpad I've ever seen. If the target is the chip at the bottom right, I would expect the "bridge" connections to go to the other header pin row (to the right, closer to the target).

    Similarly, on a (e.g.) Rev 1.6 Launchpad like the one I have here, you should connect the FET wires to the Target side of the "bridge" header block (bottom row if you're holding it with the USB at the top).
