MSP430FR6989: LCD on MCU is not working?

Part Number: MSP430FR6989
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-EXP430FR6989, MSP430WARE

Hello,

I bought msp430fr6989. After, I got it, I plugged in to my laptop with CCS on it.

I saw the green light on the top is working but LCD is not turning on. I was wondering how to turn it on?

Also, I think I got the defective module. Do you think that I need replacement / refund for the module???

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Shardul,

Thanks for posting and I'm sorry to hear of your problem. Based on your description, I think you purchased an MSP-EXP430FR6989 Launchpad, correct? The LCD on the Launchpad will only come up if there is code loaded onto it that exercises the LCD module - it may be that for some reason you received a blank device. To test if this could just be a matter of missing software rather than a hardware problem, could you try using CCS to load the MSP-EXP430FR6989 Launchpad demo code, found here: dev.ti.com/.../ (You can also find this code in TI Resource Explorer in CCS (View > Resource Explorer) Then go to Software > MSP430Ware > Development Tools > MSP-ESP430FR6989 > Demos and select the "Out of Box Experience". You should be able to import this to the IDE, and then build and debug it in the device. If you do this, does the LCD work? You should see some scrolling text.

Please let us know the results of your test, to see if there is a hardware issue - thanks for your help.

    Regards,
    Katie
