Iam very glad that you responded to my query. Regarding the details you asked "The sensors can't be placed on the bars, but they can be placed close to the bars up to 15cm".

I'm having a tough time visualizing the environment. You could post a drawing here if you like, or we could take this offline. 

As far as sensors go, we have MSP430FR6047 which has an ultrasonic peripheral on it, you may want to check it out.

To be clear, the peripheral acts as an AFE and signal processor, it does not include the transducers.

Yeah..I know it doesn't include transducer,but  I just hoped that I could get some help from you regarding the transducer part also.

These look like they are for rail cars. Are you trying to monitor the distance at a switch? I'm trying to picture where the 10mm gap would be.

Where/How would you mount the sensors? I think ultrasonic could be used here, it would just require figuring out the positioning.

We could also look at CapTIvate and ESI (capacitive and inductive sensing). Can you give me a deeper description of the problem you are to solve?
