MSP430 USB CDC HID API Stacks v2.0 (slac285c)... Where did it go???

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529

What’s going on with the MSP430 USB CDC HID API Stacks v2.0 for the MSP430F5529?

All of our development up to our 1st revision prototypes was done using the ‘preliminary’ slac285a version.

We’re starting to make code changes for our 2nd revision prototypes and found that TI had released the ‘V2.0’ version of the USB stacks (slac285b) in early November, so we started modifying our code to fit within the new V2.0 stacks.

Earlier in the week I found that there was a new slac285c version of the V2.0 stacks listed on the MSP430F5529 webpage, but has now mysteriously disappeared  -> http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/msp430f5529.html

The new slac285c version of the V2.0 stacks are also referenced here… but it’s a dead link now ->

http://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/msp43016-bit_ultra-low_power_mcus/f/166/t/84427.aspx

So, who’s on first?

Should we be developing with the slac285c version and what happen to it?

  • Hi Steve,

    strange indeed!

    I've see it to this week since I've linked it in another post too, but this link is also dead!
    So, maybe there's work in progress on the Stack and because of that TI has removed the old version from the web.

  • It would be nice if someone from TI would step up and answer this question...

    What happened to the new slac285c version of the MSP430 USB CDC HID API Stacks v2.0 that was posted on the MSP430F5529 webpage on or about 15 Dec and apparently removed shortly thereafter?

    I have a copy of the slac285c zip file that I downloaded on 15 Dec, but it was gone from the website a day or so later when I talked to our firmware guy about downloading the 'C' version to update our code.

    We downloaded the slac285b version when it was released in mid Nov and had started up update our code to use the 2.0 release of the USB stacks.

    Currently, I don't find any version of the USB stacks listed under any of the part variants.

    So, what's going on and which version should we be developing with???

  • Hello,

    I believe the information you are looking for is now in the MSP430 USB Developers Package.

  • Hi Devin,

    Your link takes you to a pdf for 'slaa452a - USB Field Firmware Updates on MSP430 MCUs' not to the zip file for the 'slac285c - MSP430 USB CDC HID API Stacks v2.0' code files.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

    you need to click on the 'Get software' button for downloading the software.

    I've had a brief view on the content; looks like everything is there. Find the readme.txt below.

    Texas Instruments MSP430 USB Developers Package

    ***********************************************************

    Package Contents:

    -> MSP430 Code (USB API & Application Examples):

      -> Contains MSP430 USB API stacks for CDC, HID and composite examples.

      -> Contains a recommended Main Loop Framework (a heavily-commented framework from which to begin development)

    -> MSP430 USB Descriptor Tool:

      -> Configures the API stack prior to development, and generates the USB descriptors.

      -> USB Stack 2.0 does not support MSC even though the descriptor tool supports this.

    -> MSP430 HID USB Application:

      -> Similar to a terminal application (i.e., Hyperterminal), except for HID.  Use with the MSP430 Code USB API application examples.

    -> MSP430 USB Firmware Upgrade Example:

      -> Allows customers to easily customize and release an installer package for upgrading MSP430-based devices in the field.

    -> Programmer's Guide:  MSP430 USB API v2.0.

      ->A complete reference for developing USB software on the MSP430

      -> The CDC/HID API Stack Programmer's Guide documents everything in this directory.  See it for information about:

    *  evaluating the stack and examples

    *  writing applications

    *  using the Descriptor Tool

    *  links to other MSP430 USB information

    Subdirectories also contain readme's with additional information.

  • Hello Steve,

    My apologies for the trouble finding the SW you were looking for. The link and summary Devin/aBUGSworstnightmare provided are correct. The switchover of the links in the product folder took place late last week and was done to better organize the USB SW portfolio as well as come inline with TI's SW licensing policies. The current link/home should be the long term location for all software related to MSP430 USB.

    Hopefully the link is working and you can get what you need to move forward. If anything is out of place or missing, please let us know and I will work to get the kinks worked out.

    Regards,
    Zack

  • Hi aBUGSworstnightmare,

    Thank you!

    The slac285b zip file had been placed on the MSP430F5529 webpage in Nov and was replaced by slac285c in Dec only to disappear several days later.

    After the short life of the 'B' version, I was afraid the disappearance of the 'C' version days after its posting was an ominous sign...

    I had searched the TI site for 'slac285' and got no hits... I guess you have to be psychic to know that its been renamed and move to a different page...

    Thanks again,

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

    I fully agree with you! Even my best friend Harvey - a 2m tall white rabbit who's drinking whiskey the whole day - couldn't find obvious reason for this!

    From my (and Harvey's) point of view - posting a link on the product pages would be an easy task resulting in less confusion to the users.
