Fat file system implementation for SD cad using MSP430f5XX

FatFs has been ported to the MSP430. It is available as part of the new Experimenter Board that's coming out:

The code available with the board includes a port of FatFs.

It is included in the USB developers Package.

In some projects directories, you will find the FatFs directory.

I tested it with the MSP-EXP430F5529, and it works.

 

I think, the SDCARD driver is not optimised. This driver was written to work with a 25 MHz clock, and the projects are compiled with a lower DCO clock.

That's why this driver is a bit slower.

You must adapdt the SPI clock configuration to your project to reach better performance.

I found another proyect on the net that I found interesting:

It is for a MSP-4619 but comes also with fatfs. I have made it work. I made some changes, mainly in spi_tx and spi_rx. I also cut everything for writing in the SD because I'm only going to read from it. I tried with a clock of 16MHz and took 0.013 sec for 2KB data. I think it's not fully optimized also but it's enough for my application.

I got twice as much on an 8MHz 1611 (max. 4MHz SPI clock). So on a 16MHz 5438 (max. 16Mhz SPI clock) it shouldn't be more than 1ms/kB.
However, if it is enough, than fine.
If not, it should be possible to just update the block read/block write function with a more optimized one. perhaps using DMA.
