Blowing jtag fuse using Launchpad

Hi,

Is it possible to blow J-tag fuse using launchpad or making simple changes to launchpad schematics? Or any other schematics available? I think it is not possible via BSL or custom bootloader.

Thanking You,

Ras

The 2x devices, including the LaunchPad G sereis, have a hardware JTAG fuse. For blowing this fuse, a high programming voltage is required which cannot be generated or controlled by the LaunchPad FET or SBW interface. It requires a 'real' FET with the capability of providing the fuse-blow voltage, and 6-pin JTAG connection (at least as far as I know), as you cannot apply the blow voltage to the TEST pin while at the same time issuing the blow command to the same pin.

The 5x series MSPs have a 'siftware fuse' which can be programmed to lock or unlock JTAG access. This can be done by your application, the BSL or JTAG/SBW, as it is just a dedicated flash signature that is checked on power-up before enabling the JTAG interface.

  • Hi,

I have also another JTAG boards like Luminary micro evaluation kits. Is it possible to use any other JTAG boards to blow fuse of 2x devices?

  • You need a board that applies 4/6 pin JTAG to the MSP and a FET that provides the fuse-blowing voltage. E.g. the full-featured USB FET.

Whether this applies to your boards and/or FET, I do not/cannot know. usually, EVAL kits may include a JTAG interface but seldom support fuse-blowing because of the additional voltage (and voltage handling) required.
