What is a "Security Violation" on the 5xx?

Figure 1-6 of the 5xx user guide shows a "security violation" as a source of a BOR.  Also, the SYSRSTIV register lists a value of 0Ah as an indicator of a "security violation."  But I can't find any explanation of what this might be.

I have a customer who actually ocassionally sees this value in this register and we have no idea what causes this.

  • Hello Mike,

to get to the information you are looking for please try searching for "security key violation" in the 5xx UG. Long story short, this condition will get triggered if accessing any of the password-protected control registers such as from the WDT, Flash controller, and the PMM. I think our UG could use better consistency here, so I'll put in a suggestion via "Submit Document Feedback" right now.

  • Andreas,

The SYSRSTIV has seperate placeholders for flash key (1Ah), PMM key (20h) violation and WDT key (18h) violation. I am told that security violation (0Ah) refers specifically to accessing protected areas in flash such as protected BSL. But you are right this information needs to be clarified in the UG.

  • Priya,

thanks for the clarification. Also, I have already seen another email from Craig taking action of adding more details regarding "security violation" to the UG.

    Regards,
    Andreas
