MSP430FR5969: Cache hit rate

Guru 24520 points

Hi community member,

Would you please provide your advices for my question?

[Question]

How much cache hit rate should customer suppose in generally?

Best regards,

Kaka

  • Hello Kaka,

This question greatly depends on the customer's code.  If the code is small and doesn't include outside FRAM access, the cache hit rate will be near 100%.  Likewise if there is a large amount of stack usage, libraries, and variables then you can expect the cache hit rate to reach 0%.  Typical cache hit rate is estimated at somewhere between 50 and 75%, but once again this depends specifically on the code structure.  Reading the specific device datasheet  can help you estimate your cache hit rate depending on the operating frequency, power mode, and current consumption.  Here is another thread answer from JMG that talks more about the cache hit rate.

    Thanks,

    Ryan

  • Hi Ryan,

    Thank you for your response.

I understood that the cache hit rate is depended on the customer's code.  I will show the reference value between 50% and 75% to customer.  And I inform that  they can estimate the cache hit rate by measuring current consumption.

    Best regards.

    Kaka
