SLAA409 Software and phase calibration? Is it possible? No metrology software for phase detection!

I want to ask  something about SLAA409 software. This is the main firmware i work with at my campus.
Having studied its code, i found out that there is no metrology software there for phase detection.
However at the respective application note SLAA409.pdf, a procedure of phase calibration is described.Does this happens by mistake?
For the same reason the calibrator.exe shows always 0 deg at the Phase Cells.

  • Hi George,

The process of phase calibration is independent of the calculation of the phase shift between voltage and current.

Also, there is an error with the GUI where this phase shift is not calculated. As a result, a value of 0 is calculated. In some of our most recent software, this phase shift value is actually calculated by the GUI by using the power factor readings and the signs of active and reactive power. If you are interested in information about the phase shift between voltage and current, then power factor information should suffice.

Power factor is not good idea to estimate voltage/current phase relationship because not all the loads are linear - like switching power supplies with just rectifier and no (proper) PFC correction.

  • So what is phase calibration then?
I saw that it needed to calibrate only Vrms Irms and Active Power. All the other values are calculated indirectly at firmware.

Phase calibration is the calibration of phase shift or the calibration of Voltage Current Power of a phase for instance A?

    I got confused.
  • What I mean is that this part cannot be performed on SLA409A.ZIP
