Windows 10 install of CCS 6.1.1.00022 won't run MSP-FET recovery

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-FET

I am getting an error when CCS asks to update the firmware on a BRAND NEW out of the box MSP-FET:

MSP430: Error: MSP-FET / eZ-FET recovery failed

Digging around, I find a batch file in

C:\ti\ccsv6\ccs_base\DebugServer\drivers

So I run v2v3.bat and it complains:

Multiple connected MSP-FET430UIF or eZ430 emulators may cause the upgrade
to fail and render the emulator unusable.

Please ensure to disconnect all emulators except for the intended MSP-FET430UIF.

Looking in Device Manager, I see no devices named 'MSP-FET'. When I plug/unplug the MSP-FET, I see Windows add a 'USB Input Device'.

So I am wondering if there are no drivers for W10 yet, and it is installing the MSP-FET as a USB input device???

Need some help here, somebody toss me a clue? I have deleted/reinstalled CCS three times now, no joy.

  • Hi tonyo,

I know people have reported getting the MSP-FET to work on Windows 10 before so it should be possible. When connecting the MSP-FET the Device Manager should have two virtual COM ports appear: one called MSP Application UART1 and the other MSP Debug Interface. I am bringing in the experts on the Tools team to further comment on this matter, please give them appropriate time to respond.

  • Hello tonyo,

The MSP-FET has 2 different enumeration modes: The operation mode “CDC communication class device” Com port as well as enumeration as a HID. In this case something serious inside the MSP-FET firmware happened and it has entered a recovery state. It furthermore seems like the MSP-FET could not be recovered by CCS.

In this case an UpdateLog.txt file is created inside .. ccsv6\ccs_base\DebugServer\drivers. Can you please reply with this file attached?

    Thanks,
    Ryan
  • Hi tonyo,

Has your issue been resolved? If not please attach the requested UpdateLog.txt file.

  • I installed CCS on my laptop, which updated MSP-FET properly.

After that, I plugged it into my desktop and it worked as it should.

Not sure why, but I'm not complaining...
