Design guide for MSP430F5310

What do you mean by "reference design guide"? It is a microcontroller, not a complete application. The datasheet and the user's guide have some recommendations and limitations regarding a few parts like decoupling capacitors or load capacitance for the internal reference voltage, for example. But there won't be a general reference design because everyone has it's own application.

I have connected the circuit according to the datasheet but not able to program it, so i needed a basic circuit that should startup my controller for programming. I am using MSP430 Launchpad for programming it via SBW interface.

Could you then please upload a schematic of your circuit and some info about the connections between the microcontroller and the FET you are using?

I have removed the microcontroller from the Launchpad and connected the TEST, REST, VCC and GND pins directly to launchpad and tried debugging , which shows error.

Which LaunchPad are you using?

MSP-EXP430G2

That's the problem :\ Unfortunately this combination does not work. The G2 LaunchPad does not support this type of processor.

Look at this document. It shows the device compatibility between the different FETs / LaunchPads and the various processors. You need at least a LaunchPad with an eZ-FET (lite) on it.

Sorry I had to tell you that ;\ Hopefully you have another piece of hardware to go on with your project. Your schematic looks OK by the way - no major faults in that.

Then you're lucky since it is not officially supported. But glad to hear you can go on working.
