MSP-FET Fatal Error: Could not find device

I know that there are many posts about this problem but they dont seem to solve my problem. I am currently using a MSP-FET with a MSP-TS430RGC64C developemnt board with a MSP430F5229 chip. When trying to run the IAR kickstart I get the following error "Fatal error:  Could not find device (or device not supported) Session aborted!" I have tried many of the solutions such as finding the firmware version using Elprotronic FET-Pro430 but i am getting a MSP430.dll initialization error which says to check if your device is connected.  The device manager has the FET listed as follows

I have also tried reinstalling the MSP430.dll but it doesnt change any of the results. Is there something I am missing? Thanks

  • Hi Brian,

How are you powering the MSP430? Most target boards can be configured to pull power from the MSP-FET by setting the VCC jumper to INT (instead of EXT). However, The F5229 is a split rail device, and requires two power rails. The VCC rail, that is similar to the VCC rail on other 430s and can be between 1.8V and 3.6V; and the DVIO rail, that must be between 1.62V and 1.98V. If you haven't already, try connecting a 1.8V supply to the DVIO rail before connecting the JTAG connector to the MSP-FET, then try programming the device again and see if that helps.
