ez-FET vs ez-FET Lite

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5528, MSP-EXP430G2ET, ENERGYTRACE

Some additional features have been added, but we basically updated the debugger to the newest version.

Why in slau772 is MSP430F5528 based FET is named as eZ-FET, while in other LP's it is eZ-FET Lite? Is it the same FET with same open source updatable firmware? Why in slau772 is list of supported devices when it should work with all SBW devices?

  • Hello zrno,

I split this response out from the previous thread as it has changed topics.

    In reference to the MSP-EXP430G2ET:
    - the eZ-FET debugger on this board can program all MSP430 devices. This is explicitly stated in slau772 in section 2.2.2 . I believe the list of "supported" device sis in reference to Table 1 in the same section. This table is in reference on how EnergyTrace support and how different versions of EnergyTrace support different features (EnergyTrace vs EnergyTrace++).
-- the move from MSP-EXP430G2 to MSP-EXP430G2ET was a move from eZ-FET LITE to eZ-FET debugger in order to add EnergyTrace among other features.

In reference to eZ-FET vs eZ-FET Lite Hardware found on different Launchpads:
    - Both versions of eZ-FET are MSP430F5528 based and have similar Firmware and Hardware. However, there are differences between the normal and LITE versions, namely, the LITE version lacks the additional Hardware/Firmware needed in order to do EnergyTrace.
