Hi,

I am using the msp430flasher to try to program a MSP430P325 device. I am using JTAG 4wire interface through MSP-FET debugger. However, it keeps returning an error 16 :Unknown Device.

I noticed the MSP-FET only recognise no more than 3.6V from target but my on board msp430p325 has a VCC of 5V.

I tried using the VCC to drive in 3.3V but still failed with Unknown Device.

What went wrong? Appreciate any advice? Thanks lots.

MSP430P325 is very old device with 16kB OTP memory. The programming voltage is needed up to 11.5V typical on the VPP pin. The MSP-FET cannot support it. The MSP430P325 programming needs special programmers. What programmer did you use for the MSP430P325 programming before?

This is the first time I am trying to program this MSP430P325. Apparently, it is listed in the Uniflash software, so I thought it is supported. Do you have any recommended programmer to program this MSP430P325 on board?

I saw a PRG-MSP430 (MSP430-PRGS430) adapter that can program a MSP430P325. Is it still available in the market? Where can I get it?

Yes. The programmer for this devices was called MSP-PRGS430.
It is not listed on TI pages, but you still can find references at some distributors, e.g. digi-key:

Thanks for the confirmation on MSP-PRGS430. Do you know where can I get it? It is an obsoletted product. Are there any replacement programmer? Thanks.

Hi, Benedict,

Both MSP430P325A and the MSP-PRGS430 are obsolete. If you want to get the MSP-PRGS430, you have to search it in the internet.

Are you using MSP430P325A for new design or for old product? If for old product, you should have the programmer. If for new design, it is recommended to select other 16kB active MSP430 devices in production status: http://www.ti.com/microcontrollers/msp430-ultra-low-power-mcus/value-line-mcus/products.html
