CCS/MSP-FET430UIF: interface communication error

Hello Deepak,

Are you programming the MSP430FR5728 on a Launchpad or a custom PCB?
Has the MSP-FET430UIF worked before and now it stopped working?
Are you running Windows, Linux or MacOS?

sir I am using custom PCB. Actually I am using one of TI reference design TIDA-00807. I am running it on windows 10. And MSP-FET430UIF is giving error from starting only.

Ok, then how do you connect the MSP-FET tool to your custom PCB (cable with connector or loose wires)?
Are you using full JTAG or SPY-BY-WIRE (simple 2-wire)?

I am using MSP-FET430UIF not MSP-FET and I am using SPY-BY-WIRE as suggested in reference design TIDA-00807 I am using loose wires to connect to custom pcb

That's fine. How long are the wires? They need to be as short as possible! Long wires adds capacitance and slows down the rising/falling edges of the SPY-BY-WIRE signals and can cause this type of issue.

Ok, so did the MSP-FET430 work before and now it is not working? or has it never worked for you?
Are you connecting to a USB HUB or directly to your PC? If connecting directly, have you tried a different USB port or maybe different USB cable?
Turn the MSP-FET430 over and provide the model and serial number.

It has never worked for me. I am connecting it directly to my PC. Its model and serial number is not written on its back side.

Ok, I'm looking at the schematic for this reference design and notice the capacitor choosen for SBW-RST is on the higher end of the recommended values (2200pF).  If you are using same on your custom PCB, can you try changing to 1000pF and see if this helps?

Yes sir I am using 2200pf capacitor, sir can you tell me how changing the capacitor value will help me. Is there any issue with settings in code composer studio?

Yes, the 2200pF capacitor slows down the rise/fall time of the RESET signal on the MSP430. When you include the additional capacitance of your wires connecting the programmer to the target PCB, this can be severe enough to cause conditions where the programmer does not recognize the target. I'm not saying this is the issue. I'm suggesting this only to eliminate this as a possible cause.
If that doesn't work then my only other suggestion is to try the programmer on another target board with MSP430FR5728 (if you have one) or an MSP430 launchpad with a different MSP430 device.

It could be possible the MSP-FET430 is damaged. You indicated there is no information on the bottom of the programmer?
How long have you owned this MSP-FET430?

Thanks a lot sir for explanation, but sir I have tried this MSP-FET430UIF with another board and it was working fine in that case. Actually local vendor gave me a demo when I bought this device from him and it was working fine. I have bought it recently .

Ok, this is good news that it did work with another board. This points me back to your board and the capacitor I mentioned. Are you willing to change it to a 1000pF to see if this is the issue?
