Duty charges on eStore purchase

Hello,

I had ordered an eZ430-Chronos-868 - eZ430-Chronos Wireless Watch Development Tool for $49.00

FEDEX gave me a shipping report from Texas Instruments that said "Incoterms: DDP Delivered duty paid", which means duties
are included in my purchase.

However, FEDEX wants me to pay the duties. Can anyone in the eStore team please clarify the matter for me?

It seems it's easy to buy from the eStore, but the E2E Help Central is the only contact. It would be really helpful to have an email ID for contact.

I cannot speak for TI, but from my own company's purchases in other countries (e.g. Digi-Key) I know that there are two different charges. While the pricing includes customs fee and everything, FedEx, UPS etc. charge the local sales tax when delivering the package. This is independent of the things included in the sales price and ouside the sellers reference. And different from country to country. (if the seller lives in the same country as the customer, then the sales tax has to be collected by the seller (hence those 'if you live in xxx, add y% sales tax' clauses on the online shops)

Hi,

Thanks for the response. In this case, FEDEX is asking me to pay the *customs duty*. I am okay with paying ithe duty myself,

but then TI should just mention that in the shipping report.

Strange. maybe a mistake in the customs office that didn't notice that the sender was paying? I think, only an insider at the TI sales can solve the riddle.

Hello,

I have also bought the same items here in Bangalore.

The duty for the package was charged. However make sure that you get an invoice for Duty Payment.

Some times the coureier companies even FEDEX and DHL take advantage of your lack of knowledge on the Customs front.

So ask them specifically for the copy of the Duty payment invoice also mention that this is a Duty paid shipment as per the invoice.

You shouldn't have paid. I got a reply from tiasia@ti.com asking me not to pay any customs duty, and they forwarded

my email to TI-US (no answer yet from them, though).

Seems someone in Fedex India is trying to fleece naive customers.

Well, well. After a day of writing on this forum here, Fedex delivered my Chronos watch package without me paying any duty charges.

I was buying components from TI estore to India. I just wanted to ask you that we dont have to pay any duties for free and paid samples from the estore ?

Hello,

You do not need to pay any duty on free samples. They are of $0 value and the Courier should not ask you.

If you have any issues write to TI-Asia support as stated in my previous posts.
