image processing for self navigation robot using MSP430G2553

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430G2553

Hello, i have been given a project in which i need to navigate a robot as  provided in map of an image .................... would MSP430g2553 be sufficient for my application....... Because i need my application to be having the most accurate system ..... please help ....... i am a beginner to embedded systems.....

Also please comment on whether image processing be an accurate process for my application ...... or i need to use some other technology...... please suggest some other accurate ways if it is so....

Thank you in advance...

  • I don't think G2553 will be sufficient since it has only 1.6 KB flash memory, unless your image is very small, like 16x16 pixels... and the processing algorithms isn't very complicated.

16 :) However, more important is that there are only 512 bytes of Ram. A B/W image of 64x64 pixels would fill it completely (not to mention the ram required for stack and variables).

And the relatively (not in the GHz range) system speed won't be able to process many frames per second. Well, maybe still enough for the purpose.

  • in my opinion  (not only in my)

MSP430G2553 will be too weak !
16k Flash / 512B RAM it is not enough

    it always depends on code:
    math operations, variable types etc.

in my opinion better is take more powerfull mc,
than waste time for finding few bytes in memory :)
