Hi,

I have developed a program and I successfully used MSP-FET debugger to debug the code.

Now I have to flash the Microcontroller but i am unsure with the methods. I tried following and seems like none worked.

1. As per refered in someother thread on E2E I enable the Hex Utility under properties. I also selected "Output TI-TXT hex format". But after running "Build" I still do not see any txt file generated in the Debug folder. I tried Intel hex form as well.

2. Which format do I need to select for MSP430?

3. What setting am I missing which prohibit hex file generation?

4. I also see there is link to Third party vendor software to flash the MSP430 But from the website the debugger is different. Will MSP-FET worj with the FET-Pro430 Lite software?

I will appreciate if someone can guide me on the exact process/ method for programming the Micro.

Hello Girish,

1. In order for the hex generator to work, you have to make sure the command used in your project properties => MSP430Hex Utility is well defined (by default, it is "${CG_TOOL_HEX}" but this symbol is not defined.

To define "${CG_TOOL_HEX}",

go to your project properties => Resource => Linked Resources => New...
Set variable name to CG_TOOL_HEX
Set its location to something like C:\ti\ccsv6\tools\compiler\msp430_xxxx\bin\hex430.exe (it shall point to hex430.exe)
Now, you should have your hex file on compilation if you activated the Hex Utility

2. The format you like is the one you should use :) (all of them work)

3. See 1.

4. Yes, FET-Pro430 Lite software will work with your MSP-FET. And you will see you can use various hex format for flashing :)

For downloading HEX files to the MSP430 without IAR or CCS, you can use the FET-Pro-430 software from Elpotronic, for example:

Thank you for your suggestions! This one worked well.

One thing I observed the whenever FET-Pro430Lite and CCS6.1 is used, the USB driver need to be updated.
