Sneak Peak: eZ430 Chronos Aug. 16th!

  • I'm watching counter on TIDeals.com and it is stopped from running and nothing is happened.

  • Yup, looks like it's just counting down random numbers.

Got no email, no nothing. Anyone else with more success ?

  • The first promotion launches today at 4:30 P.M. CST!!

     (Counting down to 4:30)

  • But the countdown is synchronized with the local time of the web browser.

So in Europe we have this for an hour :

  • Thanks for bringing this to our attention David. We are working to correct it now. The promotion will still launch as scheduled at 4:30 P.M CST.

  • Ah, making sense now. I did peek from work and it was counting to 4:30 local, when I was back home at 4:40 it was 7:xx or 8:xx left.

  • It is 16:30 and no news on tideals or mail :-?

  • It works fine on TIDeals.com (click on the Tab) ;-)

  • Try tab #2 for the first deal!

  • Feel so sad to be inform that the chronos kit is not avaliable to my region
Got the key but nothing could be doneok8r

Frustrated but looking forward for next deal to be universal to the whole world

    CHEUNG Siu Wa

  • Deal is supposed to end August 30th but the website says EXPIRED.

What is that all about? False advertising?

    So SAD!!!

I can't believe TI pulled this!!!!

  • There were 1000 eZ430 Chronos watches available for the first deal at the promotion price! They sold out within 48 hours of launch! Better luck next time!

  • Hi,

I reveived mine, but there is a problem : a chip is out of the USB Programmer :(

    What can I do ?

  • Wow - that looks like the chip ripped clean off taking the pads with it.

  • Yes, that's it.

I received it in that state :(

  • David,

I am sorry for your loss.  Doesn't even look like you could repair it yourself unless you want to try gluing the chip down and soldering small jumper wires - could work.

If you know a good rework person they may be able to fix if for you.  If you happen to be in the Bay Area I can recommend someone.

Looks like TI has a QC problem, but it happens.  I am sure it is an honest mistake and TI will gladly replace it.

Is the schematic available for that board, BTW?

  • I got the schematic (slau176d.pdf) and it seems to be U2 which was ripped off.

I'll try to fix it tomorrow.

I'm in France, so far from the Bay Area, but thank you.

I know this kind of things can happen (even to TI ;-) ), it's just disappointing not to be able to test the chronos yet.

    Regards.

  • I have taken a look at the schematic and realised that U2 is an ESD protection for the spy-bi-wire connector.

So it will work, I just have to use it cautiously.

I'll try to plug it when I could

If the offer is limited to a certain maximum number, the ads and the website should both state this clearly.
However, the ads only gave a time limit, not a count limit.
In Germany, this would be considered illegal and give competitors as well as customers a reason for legal (and profitable) actions. :)
But I know, US laws are different.

Anyway, 'expired' surely isn't the right term here. 'sold out' would have been more correct.

  • Stay tuned, looks like mine is going to bounce back. Fedex Germany sucks. :(

  •

    Hi Forum,

I received mine 2 days back, but i couldn't find the 2 spare screws as mentioned in the  "contents" list. Also the front panel of the watch has scratches.

    Regards,

    Arun

  • Looks like you got a watch that someone else already sent back (not before taking the screws out - intentionally or not). Maybe because of the scratches :)

My girlfried was working for years in a call center for an online shop. One day she noticed that she got the same complaints about a certain smartphone from different peoples (and she was not the only one working in this and some more call centers). After chacking she discovered that the same smartphone was sent back by people over and over again because it was defective, but when the defective part returned to the store, the report was separated from the device, so it was considered a normal 'I don't like it' return and put back into the shelf and sold again. And returned, and sold again. There was no connection between the call center report and the returned stuff. The 'why' was lost.
After this, they changed the workflow so that things that came back because of reported malfunction won't end up in the shelf again.
However, if people are sending things back without comment (which is legal in Germany for two weeks after delivery) and do not state that it is broken (maybe in fear of being accused to have it broken themselves - and sometimes this would be indeed the case), those are still being sold again wihtout check. Too much work to test every returned device. It would only rise the prices significantly.

Many years ago I bought a headphone with digital RF transmitter. It also had a surround function. I noticed that the headphone had normal batteries inserted and the inlcuded rechargeable batteries were untouched in the box. I tested it and it sounded awful. After some more test, I discovered that one of the inputs was dead, getting only the left side signal. But the surround function resulted in something heard on both sides of the headphone.
I returned it to the shop and the clerk sighed and put it back on top of the heap and told me that I'm not the first one who doesn't like it.
I had to tell him twice that I don't want my money back but want a different one as this one is defective. Obviously more than one has brought it back before, disappointed with the sound, but never noticing that it was because of a defect. And the shop surely would have sold a lot more of them if they hadn't given out the same defective one over and over again.
As it was a ~$400 device, i'm pretty sure there was enough time between two potential buyers that the defective one returned to the top of the heap again before the next one tried it.

Let's make it clear: this was not intentional in both cases, but a flaw in the handling of returned stuff. And often enough a lack of qualification by the clerks who may be qualified to sell or run the storage, but are unable to tell a dead device from a functional one, so they don't even look at it closer.

  • The countdown from http://tideals.com/ page does not work properly in Bucharest, Romania, clock settings GTB Dayligh time, GMT+2.

Today, before 16:00 the counter counted down to 0 by itself then stopped. On the next refresh it showed 01 days 01 hours 01 minutes and a few seconds. After that it does not count anymore and, at every refresh of the page, the displayed time INCREASE. Also the minutes and the seconds changed from 2 digits to 3 digits. It looks the same if I am using IE.

This is a Print Screen captured a few minutes ago:

  • aah, glad to know that I am sailing the same boat. Strange, but this issue seems to have been reported in this forum for the 2nd time. I expected TI to have fixed it by now. So basically is there is a deal today? Anybody able to answer that? I have registered for the emails and I didnt receive any confirmation so I believe that doesnt work either.

    cheers

    Arvind

  • I use firefox (Germany) and got the same.

Seems as if the counter hung up.

    Greetings

    Markus
