Compiler/TM4C1294NCPDT: enet_s2e project will not compile when selecting the socket layer support

Part Number: TM4C1294NCPDT

Tool/software: TI C/C++ Compiler

I have acquired the enet_s2e project from the TI TM4C129x web site development software. This has been installed with TivaWare 2.1.3.156 example directory folder dk_tm4c129x\enet_s2e. The LWIP version in the Tivaware distribution is 1.4.1. After making some necessary changes to the path designations for includes and some files, the project compiles, runs such that the Finder.exe program "sees" it on the network, and the web interface can be accessed in a Browser.

Now, I need to utilize the sequential BSD-style socket API. When I try to enable it with the following switch

#define LWIP_SOCKET                     0           // default is 1
//#define LWIP_COMPAT_SOCKETS             1
//#define LWIP_POSIX_SOCKETS_IO_NAMES     1

OR any combination of these defines, the project generates many errors. Does anybody have a solution that can get this project to compile with sockets fully enabled.
I have already spent a significant amount of time trying to back through these errors trying to determine the cause but only find that some of the macro #defines
seem to be conflicting for the build. The entire lwipopts.h file is printed below.. I can also provide anybody
interested the project files so that you can also build and experience the errors (you will likely have to make changes to the installation location paths etc.) if I can
get the "attach file" operation to work on this forum page.

Thanks in advance for any pointers that may lead to getting this working.

Thanks,
Russ

  • Hello Russ

    I have asked the concerned application engineer to respond to your post.

    Now, I need to utilize the sequential BSD-style socket API. When I try to enable it with the following switch

    The lwIP port in TivaWare does not support BSD-style socket APIs. It only supports lwIP raw APIs.

    FYI: The raw APIs are more efficient than the BSD-style socket APIs. If you already haven't, please refer the lwIP documentation on the different Application Layers for difference between the lwIP raw APIs and the BSD-style socket APIs.

    Thanks,

  • Ouch... Unfortunately, not an expected or very good resolution... Not sure why the enet_s2e project was built on top of FreeRTOS if the lwIP port does not support the BSD-style (or even the netconn) socket APIs; seems it just complicates the environment and customer extensions of that project...
    Thanks for the response.

    Perhaps because there are slight differences between a typical BSD machine and a Cortex M microcontroller, especially in performance and available code space ?
