TI Booster Pack Checker Tool

Hi All,

I just want to share this very useful tool from TI. It will show the compatibility of a Booster Pack to a TI Launchpad. It is still under improvement. If you have any improvement suggestions message TI Dung Dang.

  • Hello Kel

Thanks for putting it up on the TM4C forum. It would be a rather helpful resource for folks looking at BP and Stacking them (we know that there have been posts on the same earlier in the forum)

Forum Note: Even if Stacking of BP's or compatibility with BP's are there for TM4C, software may not be there as part of TivaWare. So application level development for new BP's may still be with the end user.

    Regards
    Amit
  • Not having seen (or known) of this new "tool" it should be noted that "Stacking" (as Amit's just mentioned) may overtax the LPad's power sourcing capabilities.

Always wise to carefully note & calculate the power requirements of each (added) device - successful designs (always) begin with adequate power!
  • Hello cb1

Yes, indeed sir. It is still not a power calculator but only a stack up solution solver.

    Amit
  • For TI Launchpads which has two Booster Pack Connector, like Tiva Connected Launchpad, you can switch which Booster Pack Connector the Booster Pack is being shown for compatibility, by clicking the image of Booster Pack in "Compatibility Checker" view. This will show a hidden menu, that will allow you to toggle which TI Launchpad Booster Pack Connector to use. This feature is only available if a TI Launchpad with two Booster Pack Connector is selected.

  • Dawns that it would be useful to know if this "tool" enjoys, "PF0/PD7 Awareness." (assumes that the Booster Packs themselves - on occasion - may "seek" to connect to either of those 2 (dreaded) pins...)
  • Hello cb1

That would not be the case as it is more from pin use information perspective than it is for device specific features

    Regards
    Amit
  • Hi Amit,

Thus - if this "tool" does not have PF0/PD7 "awareness" - and hapless user has "missed" the (briefly) alerting mice-type - disaster beckons. (we note that even "crude" circular saws have "blade guards.")
  • Hello cb1

The intent of the online resource is only for selection of BP's. It does not relate to the function if even available in the software for the corresponding uC. I have already alerted the concerned team on the same as this is not a good approach of just providing BP to LP compatibility.

That's exactly my concern - as well.

Introducing poster presented - minus these (potentially) critical facts - and that raised serious safety flags.

I'm glad that - at minimum - you/I (but not o.p.) have the same sensitivity/awareness...

  • Hello cb1,

That is the reason I have made sure that I get feedback on the same. IMHO a uC portfolio wide tool should have stronger basis than just pin check compatibility.

Roger that, Amit.    Glad you've not, "Surrendered to the Kool-Aid" w/out first "taste-testing!"
