DRV8343S-Q1EVM: How do you flash the EVM

Part Number: DRV8343S-Q1EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529, MSP-EXP430G2ET, MSP-EXP430FR5739

How does one use the MSP‑EXP430G2ET to program the MCS on the DRV8343S-EVM?  I do not see any connections from the Launchpad that would interface with the EVM board?

If this is not possible how do you flash the micro on the EVM with the sensored example?

  • Hi Ron,

Unfortunately this is not the easiest setup to accomplish, but I can walk you through how to flash the MSP430F5529 on the EVM using an MSP LaunchPad.

First, you need to obtain a LaunchPad with the SPI-by-wire 6-pin, 50-mil wide connector on the right side of the board. Two LaunchPads I know have this connector: the MSP-EXP430G2ET and the MSP-EXP430FR5739. You may need to solder 4-pins (SBWTDIO, SBWTCK, 3V3, GND) using a 50-mil 4-pin header to the LP as shown below:

Once the connector is mated to the LP, plug in the connector to the 4-pin SPI-by-wire female connector that is on the left side of the DRV8343x-EVM in the following manner (tops of boards face up).

Once connected, plug in a micro-USB cable into the LaunchPad and the 3.3V LEDs should light up on the LP and on the EVM.

Now at this point, you should be able to flash the sensored trapezoidal, sensorless trapezoidal, or independent mode firmware (downloadable from the product page here) onto the MSP430F5529 MCU.

    Thanks,
    Aaron
