DRV8844: Continuous motor drive output current

Hi Team

When customer evaluating DRV8844, they asks whether continuous motor drive output current can reach 3A, if with good heatsink natural cooling?  since on datasheet the max is 2.5A, but don't know the thermal condition

    Hi Gene,

    The 2.5A continuous current rating is the abs max rating. So we don't guarantee that the device will function normally if the current is pushed above 2.5-A. You may be able to push the current up to 3-A with good heatsink and cooling but the device may malfunction due to the high current.
