DRV8343-Q1: Product recommendation

Hi 

Our customer now need to find a driver IC ,an external mosfet drives a BLDC, the motor power is about 50W. I search the DRV8343-Q1 has 3 current senses(which could do the FOC algorithm while it is also OK without current sense amplifier) Do we have a size-smaller chioce? I think 8316 has a built-in half bridge, and the current is not enough. The demand is that because the normal working current of the motor is about 5A, the stall current is below 20A and we need an automotive device recommendation. In addition, I see DRV8316 is a catalog and automotive level device, does itself support AEC-Q100 or only DRV8316Q1 support AEC-Q100 but DRV8316 not? Thank you very much!

    Hello Zirui,

    DRV8316-Q1 supports AEC-Q100, while DRV8316 does not (This is the meaning of "Q1" in the name). We would not recommend the 8316 or the 8316-Q1 because, as you said, this device cannot support the motor current of 5A (it has a maximum Irms setting of 4A), not withstanding the 20A at stall you mentioned as well. The DRV8343-Q1 with external MOSFETs appears to be the best option with this level of current.
