DRV8889-Q1: DRV8889-Q1 not working after mcu s/w update ?

Part Number: DRV8889-Q1

Hello team,

A customer has an issue where a motor via DRV8889-Q1 doesn't work after MCU S/W update while reliability testing. However, it's confirmed that the MCU S/W in the same board is working normally through the swapping test of SPI lines (failure board's MCU SPI + normal board's DRV8889-Q1/motor).

Do you think that DRV8889-Q1 is damaged? Would you please let me know what is the next step to debug or find the root cause?

Thanks,

Sam Lee

  • Sam,

"it's confirmed that the MCU S/W in the same board is working normally through the swapping test of SPI lines" and "DRV8889-Q1 doesn't work after MCU S/W update while reliability testing".

What differences between the MCU S/W in the swapping test and reliability testing?

    " DRV8889-Q1 doesn't work"

What do you mean not work? SPI communication? Or not output and motor not spinning?

Please provide test waveform or measurement result if you think something is abnormal.

    Regards,

    Wang Li

  • Hi Wang,

The MCU Software is just the firmware update of the platform, so it has nothing to do with motor driver's settings and motor operating sequence. However, the motor is not spinning after rebooting.

To find the root cause, they tried to connect the SPI lines (between MCU and DRV8889-Q1 in the failure board) to the other normal platform's DRV8889-Q1 SPI lines. In that case, the motor spun normally. That means, the MCU software works normally and the issue is between DRV8889-Q1 and motor.

Will try to provide the output waveform.

    Thanks,

    Sam Lee

  • Sam,

Yes. Please provide the register setting value and read back value. It is hard to believe DV8889 outputs are different with the same input signals and register settings.
