DRV8814: difference between DRV8814 and DRV8813

Part Number: DRV8814
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8813

Hi Team,

DRV8814 is used to drive brushed motor. Because of supply issue, our customer wants to confirm whether DRV8813 can drive brushed motor?

As I understand, yes. DRV8813/DRV8814 are very similar part.

Can you let us know what is their difference? If both DRV8813/4 can cover DC motor and stepper motor, why we develop two sockets?

Thanks!

BR

  • Hi Marvin,

Thank you for the question! Yes, the DRV8813 can drive brushed motors.

There are a few minor differences between the DRV8814/13 devices.

DRV8813 supports fast, slow, and mixed decay mode while the DRV8814 only supports fast and slow decay mode. So the DRV8813 has slightly more sophisticated control over its ability to start/stop. That being said, the logic for fast/slow between the two devices is identical so you won't need to revise your board when switching between DRV8814/13.

They are also designed for a slightly different Voltage Supply. DRV8813 is designed to operate from 8.2V-45V and DRV8814 is designed to operate from 8V-45V.
