DRV10866: Detect locking fault

Hello,

My customer wants to be able to monitor their motor for a locked condition. Is the easiest way to do that by monitoring the FG pin and checking for a static output (basically the same way the part itself does it)? Or is there a better way?

Hello Michael,

Monitoring the FG pin period is a simple way to implement a lock detect. DRV10866 does not have a specific fault pin to report a lock condition but it does implement lock detection internally.

You may also be able to monitor the motor current to detect when the current increases too high - this can also indicate a stall.
