DRV8718-Q1: Datasheet update issue

Part Number: DRV8718-Q1

Now TI update the DRV8718 (Multi-Channel Smart Half-Bridge Gate Drivers) datasheet, latest REVISED JUNE 2021.

But compared with the old REVISED AUGUST 2020, some SPI register map has changed. Could you please support and check the following changes?

SPI register changes history

  1. Register IC_CRL_2, add new field DIC_SSC in bit7, it is the new function Spread Spectrum. As I know, the DRV8718 is not SOP now, we want to utilize this function in EMC test, so need you help to check the sample version.
  2. Register PDR_CTRL9 and PDR_CTRL10, add new field EN_PDRx in bit7. The description is not clear, how to enable this function, 0b or 1b?
  3. Register STC_CTRL1, STC_CTRL2, STC_CTRL3 and STC_CTRL4, add new filed EN_STCx in bit3. Also is not clear for description.
  • Hi Qilong,

Register PDR_CTRL9 and PDR_CTRL10, add new field EN_PDRx in bit7. The description is not clear, how to enable this function, 0b or 1b?

This is the bit to enable the spread spectrum clocking which is used primarily to reduce EMI noise due to the switching frequency and its harmonics.

Register PDR_CTRL9 and PDR_CTRL10, add new field EN_PDRx in bit7. The description is not clear, how to enable this function, 0b or 1b?

To enable PDR loop control, EN_PDRx=1b. (the datasheet is not clear on this but we will correct it in the next datasheet update)

Register STC_CTRL1, STC_CTRL2, STC_CTRL3 and STC_CTRL4, add new filed EN_STCx in bit3. Also is not clear for description.

EN_STCx = 1b will enable the STC loop control.

  • Hello Pablo

As I konw, DRV8718-Q1 is not SOP yet, which sample version start to add the spread spectrum function?

  • Hi Qilong,

The DRV8718-Q1 has already been released to market. So the spread spectrum function is already in the device.
