I am using the DRV8873H in an existing design and I want to know if there is a way to use the DRV8873S in the same design in PWM mode without using a SPI interface to configure the IC. Basically is there a default mode, and/or how can I make this default PWM.

You can use the DRV8873S without using SPI but you will be restricted to the default register values. I suggest reading section 7.6 of the datasheet to see the default register settings. If there are any setting that you wish to change, you will have to use SPI communication to write to registers.
