BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM: current cannot be collected

Part Number: BOOSTXL-DRV8305EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8305, INA240

Hi Team,

Customers use BOOSTXL-DRV8305 as a driver board to drive the motor. There are other controllers that output PWM to the driver board. When collecting current, no current can be collected when the lower bridge arm is not conducting, and the three-phase current presents intermittent sine waves. He would like to know how to resolve this case?

Thanks,

Annie

  • Hello Annie,

The DRV8305 uses low-side current sense amplifiers. Low-side current sense amplifiers will only detect the current when current is flowing through the low-side MOSFET and sense resistor of that 1/2-H bridge. Therefore the motor control algorithm must align the ADC current sampling with the PWM waveform.

To detect the current all the time, the customer needs to implement in-line current sense like the INA240.

    Thanks,

    Matt
