DRV8718-Q1: DRV871X-Q High power TEC controller

Part Number: DRV8718-Q1

as title,For a new project  we need to control  4 Peltier modules independently. The TEC module we need is XLT2418, see picture below, I found the DRV871x-Q1 that should be suitable to control such modules, but I found no application sheet for a TEC driver in your datasheet. However some questions about this :

1. can DRV871X-Q be used to control TEC module, if no, can you recommend?

2.Is it possible to reverse the voltage at the TEC with this module because we need to cool down and heat up. Or do we need additional electronics when we want to reverse the Peltier current?

  • Hi Yang,

can DRV871X-Q be used to control TEC module, if no, can you recommend?

Based on the 13.9A max requirement for this TEC, the DRV8718-Q1 can be used as long as the external FETs can handle Drain currents of 13.9-A. You can read this FAQ to learn more about driving TECs with conventional motor drivers.

2.Is it possible to reverse the voltage at the TEC with this module because we need to cool down and heat up. Or do we need additional electronics when we want to reverse the Peltier current?

Yes. The TEC element needs to be set in bidirectional control using two half-bridges. So the voltage across the TEC can be changed reversing the current across the TEC.
