I'm looking for alternative options:

1. Anywhere to get a couple hundred of these?

2. Is there a better/similar part that has availability of a couple hundred?

3. Can I add current regulation to a part such as DRV835x? And what are the circuit recommendations?

4. New pre production parts are an option.

Some vague requirements: 28 volt nominal power supply, 4 amp peak current. Drives a brush type motor, bidirectional with PWM.

Any help is appreciated.

Tim,

For 4A peak, you can consider a higher power integrated part like the DRV8243S-Q1. We do have this device in stock currently in a leaded package with SPI communication.

Alternative gate drivers would be the DRV8705S-Q1, but this is also out of stock at the moment.

Hi Ryan,

I'm looking into the DRV8245S-Q1, but confused by the Junction Temperature estimator excel spreadsheet. My first suspicion is the fact there is an estimator. This implies to me that power dissipation is a bigger issue for this small package.

For non PWM, the power dissipation in the FETs seem reasonable. But for PWM, the power jumps. Seems very high, just under 8W for 4A & 28V.

Any ideas on the power issues?

Any ideas for #3 above?

Tim,

Let me investigate the calculator issue.

For #3, the DRV835x has integrated sense amplifiers that can be used with an external sense resistor to sense the current. This can be fed back to an ADC on an external microcontroller and PWM adjusted for current regulation. From a hardware standpoint, only an external sense resistor needs to be added just like the DRV8703-Q1. The loop would need to be closed in software.

Tim,

What you are seeing in the calculator is correct. Please see the app note below. If you adjust the slew rate setting in row 4 of the spreadsheet, you will see a dramatic improvement in the power dissipation. The LSFET 2 specifically will go down.

Where are these parts made? I just received some transceiver parts, and the say made in china.

Is this part of the lack of product in supply chain?

Any plans to move this part to North America? or away from China?

We are actively moving away from China sourced parts.
