DRV8889-Q1: Typical schematic design and layout recommendation

Hi team

Since between DRV8889 and the motor, there is a direct connection I have seen in the datasheet, without some filtering components

Is it necessary to put some filtering components? Do we have a reference circuit and schematic design that can be sent to us for a look? I could not see it in the EVM user guide.

For EMC, what countermeasures can reduce the risk? I only have the layout guideline below the portfolio folder page, any other suggestions and solutions for layout recommendation to improve EMC?

Hi Zirui,

Here is PCB/Schematic proposal for EMC(EMI). This is optional. Customer can keep PCB space only then place components if needed.

1. Place ~10uF ceramic cap on OUT+(and OUT-) to GND. These two cap should be close to motor terminal, not close to DRV8889. Since DRV8889 has 4 H Bridges, in total 4 caps.

2.Place ~0.1uF between OUT+ and OUT-. This should be close to motor terminal.

Cap value need to be adjusted for customer's PCB.

Hi,

I guess it should be rather 10nF not 10uF on driver output "OUT+(and OUT-) to GND".

Zirui,

I think it should be placed on driver pcb close to output terminals, one between OUT1 and GND and another one between OUT2 and GND.

If DRV8889 is to be used with stepper motor then DRV8889-Q1EVM may be a good example.
