DRV8832-Q1: How to keep it rotating

Hello, Team,

Our customer is currently evaluating DRV8832-Q1.

The configurations are:

- VCC: 3V
- VREF-VSET resistor: 53kΩ (from datasheet p7)
- VSET-GND resistor: 75kΩ (from datasheet p7)
- ISENSE-GND resistor: 0.2Ω (calculated from R ISENSE=200mV/1000mV)
- FAULTn : NC

In the above setting:

- IN1=0, IN2 = 0 -> IN1 = 1, IN2 = 0 : it rotates, but stops
- IN1=0, IN2 = 0 -> IN1 = 0, IN2 = 1 : it rotates in inverse, but stops

Customer wants the motor to keep rotating, but it does not current configuration.
What are they missing?

Hi,

1)Can we review customer's schematic?

2) Once motor stops, does it start rotate again later? Or keep stopping/no recovery?

3)One possibility is DRV8832-Q1 protection is activated then motor stopped. Can customer put pull up resister(~1Kohm to VCC) on FAULn pin then monitor FAULTn pin voltage?

If one of protection(table2) happens, FAULTn pin goes to Low.

3)Did customer measure motor current or VCC just before stop? Notes that OCP does not recover without VCC power cycle.

4) If FAULTn goes low and no recovery, may try to increase ISENSE-GND resistor from 0.2ohm to ~0.5ohm as trial. It may prevent OCP.

Hi, Morita-san,

As you have pointed out, OCP was working when the motor stopped its rotation.
Customer now resolved the issue and is continuing the evaluation.
