What else is to look for when doing "split supply"?

well, please have a look at page 148, figure 9-1. In that figure I see that Vbatt and PVDD are not connected. So I assume that they can be of different value, like
So PVDD = 5 ... 10V and Vbatt = 48V.
Is this possible in general?
What are the max. value of difference between PVDD and Vbatt?
Also, it helps if you could point me to the exact location in the datasheet where this is described.
