MCF8316A: Online GUI always show an error message

Part Number: MCF8316A

Hi,

After install GUI plugin and ticloudagent.exe, Firefox and Chrome all pop up the same error message as below:

"Windows cannot find C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Texas". Make sure you typed name correctly, and then try again.

Is it normal, should I ignore it ?

Looking forward to your reply.

  • Hi Julian,

Thanks for posting your question in the MD forum.

Could you please provide a few details regarding your computer and installation?

    • What Windows version are you using?
    • Are there spaces or any special characters in your windows username?
    • When installing the ticloudagent__2.exe, did you modify the default installation directory? It should default to C:\Users\username
    • Could you check if the TICloudAgent folder exists under C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Texas Instruments\

    Regards,
    Eric C

  • Hi Julian,

Our GUI composer team made some changes to try to address the issue. Could you please try running the GUI again to see if you still get the same error message?

    Thanks,
    Eric C.

  • Hi Eric,

First thing first, I remove browser plugin and TI agent then install again, the result is the same.

    1. WIN10 Professional traditional chinese

    2. There is no space or special character in the username, username is julian.

    3. Yes, I use default installation directory

    4. Yes, TICloudAgent  exists in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Texas Instruments\

Please note, the error message said "C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Texas", but I don't see this folder exist.

I tried manual create an empty "Texas" folder there, then system show another message, it said cannot find executable application...

    Regards,

    Julian.

  • One more information, I tried to run on MacBookPro, but it show:

The system is Big Sur, 11.5.2/

  • Hi Julian,

The windows error message is most likely getting cut off at the space character, thus it just may not show full path in the message.

The C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Texas Instruments\TICloudAgent\ folder is used to store Cloud Agent generated files, and it should be safe to completely delete this folder since the cloud agent would regenerate necessary files. They are stored to optimize performance and store runtime information, such as crashes or hangs.

The actual TI Cloud Agent itself is installed in C:\Users\username\TICloudAgent\

Could you please try using the command prompt or Windows PowerShell and run the ticloudagent.bat file and verify that you get an output message like shown below:

Regarding running the GUI in macOS, unfortunately Apple has placed quite a bit of restrictions on recent macOS distributions. Our GUI composer team is actively working on properly signing and notarizing the GUI composer backend so that they can be installed and run correctly on later macOS distributions.

    Thanks,
    Eric C.

  • Hi Eric,

I use CMD to run ticloudagent.bat, it show:

    C:\Users\username\TICloudAgent>ticloudagent.bat
    5   {"port":53711,"version":"4.11","buildVersion":"3341"}

I tried to suspend antivirus software, but still no good result.

    Any suggestions ?

  • Hi Julian,

Would you please try installing the offline GUI installer (direct link below) to see if the same issue persists?

    Offline installer: https://dev.ti.com/gallery/dl/BLDC/MCF8316A_GUI?platform=win

Please extract the zip, then run the MCF8316A_GUI-1.0.0.setup-win_9.0.0.exe and leave all install paths as default.

    Regards,
    Eric C.

  • Hi Eric,

    Offline installer works great, thanks.
