MCF8316AEVM: Unable to rotate the sensorless bldc motor using the gui

Part Number: MCF8316AEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MCF8316A,

Hi,

We are in the process of evaluating this chipset for a medical device that employs a sensorless BLDC Motor.

At the point we are unable to even rotate the BLDC using the GUI (MCF8316A_GUI) on the dev.ti.com website.

I prefer to have a conference call with an engineer who can guide us through this process of evaluation.

Thanks in advance.

Kamesh

  • Hi Kamesh,

Thanks for posting your question in E2E forum and evaluating MCF8316A. Can you answer below questions to help us understand the issue better?

    1. Can you make sure the MCF8316A GUI link that you have is same as below?

        dev.ti.com/.../

    2. After powering up the MCF8316AEVM and connecting the GUI to your computer, do you see the "Hardware connected" text at the bottom left corner of the MCF8316A GUI?

    3. Did you follow the instructions in the "Guided tuning -> Essential controls" in the MCF8316A GUI? This section explains on how to restore default values in the device and spin the motor in closed loop.

    4. Do you see  the nFault LED turned ON? This means the device has triggered a fault.

    5. Do you issue speed command using Analog, PWM or I2C?

    Regards,

    Vishnu.

  • Hi Kamesh,

Since this issue got resolved, can you help us by click the "Resolved" button?

For others who are following this thread, device triggered "MPET IPD" fault. Entering the motor parameters manually helped in resolving the issue.

    Regards,

    Vishnu
