The longest TOFF can reduce the switching loss.
The decay mode can affect the average current setting, even with the same Itrip setting. But, the average current setting should be decided by the load torque. After the average current is decided, the ripple control decay could give a fixed small ripple around the average current which can allow less extra margin for Itrip setting.
