Hello,

I have several questions about how to use the DRV8343S-Q1EVM.

Does the DRV8343S-Q1 always require CCS? It's described in its User's Guide (SLVUBB8B), but I don't need or wouldn't modify reference codes. I guess GUI is just enough for my evaluation if it doesn't involve software development.
Can a PWM from a function generator be used as signal source for IN[H/L][A/B/C] inputs? I guess what I need to do is just to remove jumper resistors that connect a MCU on the EVM.
Can the EVM be used with a two-phase motor in 6x PWM mode, a three-phase motor in 6x PWM mode, and a solenoid as high-side driver in independent half-bridge mode with a single PWM?
Which firmware should I use for each of the loads?
Is there anything else I need to care about?

Hi Yokota-san,

The DRV8343x-Q1EVM comes preconfigured with a program, however I cannot recall if its sensored or sensorless trapezoidal. You can confirm by powering on and plugging the EVM to your computer and running the GUI, and seeing which firmware the EVM recognizes.

When you download the firmware, it comes with Sensored Trap, Sensorless Trap, and Independent Mode firmware. However you must use CCS to reprogram the firmware so the GUI recognizes it. 1x PWM mode is possible but you have to modify the firmware so its an accessible register in the GUI. I believe I fixed this awhile ago and I have the CCS program below, but not sure if it 100% works, so you may able to confirm for me if you reflash the MCU on the EVM and the GUI lets you set the 1x PWM mode bit in the GUI.

Thanks for your quick feedback.

What if only SPI register access by GUI is required for my evaluation regardless of which firmware installed? I suspect these are the steps I must take.

Remove jumper resistors of at least IN[H/L]_[A/B/C] signals that connect the MCU on the EVM.
Apply PWM signals from a function generator to the IN[H/L]_[A/B/C] signals on the DRV8343-Q1 side.
Access DRV8343-Q1 registers by GUI.

Please confirm and give me your advice.

Hi Yokota-san,

You can definitely remove the PWM 0-ohm resistors (red box) and apply PWM signals from the function generator via the test point row (yellow box) so that you can utilize the GUI to access the DRV8343-Q1 registers. Just ensure that you only enable the driver (Enable Driver) to SPI is active. Don't hit "Motor Enable" or else you'll likely run into faults since PWMs are not available.

How can I change bits 6-4 of the register IC1 on the Register Page of the DRV8343x-Q1EVM GUI that are grayed out?

Hi Yokota-san,

Are you trying to use 1x PWM mode? That has to be fixed in firmware. I have a CCS project that has this fixed (and ungrays the boxes) but requires reflashing the program into the MSP430F5529:
