DRV8412: Parallel Half Bridge Mode Operation

Part Number: DRV8412
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8873

Hello,

I don't think it is possible but have to ask.

I have to drive a 3,2A TEC for cooling only, so i can't use just 1 bridge for that (3A max).
So is it possible to use it in parallel half bridge ? Or do you have a more appropriate part for that ?

Thanks !

  • Hi Thyrion,

Yes, you can parallel the output current. The DRV8412 can drive up to 6-A continuous when parallel. Make sure to follow the procedure on the datasheet to properly configure the device to support parallel mode.

If you have not done so already, I suggest reading this FAQ on driving TEC with TI drivers. You may find useful information.

  • Hi,

In the Datasheet there is only mention of parallel full bridge and not parallel half bridge, that's why i'm not sure.

  • Thyrion,

The DRV8412 only support parallel full bridge. If you need a device that can source more than 3A, you can look at the DRV8873/74. The FAQ that I have linked above also provides other TI motor drivers that can be used to drive TEC elements. Please let me know if you have any other questions after reading through the FAQ.
