Please recommend a motor driver IC.

Hi

The operating conditions are as follows.

All you have to do is operate with an ON/OFF signal.

Let me know the IC that has the simplest functions.

-condition-

Motor type : BLDC

Input : 8V~24V

Current : MAX 8A

application : Fuel pump. (Operate motor when the battery is on)

Thanks

  • Hi David,

I would recommend the MCT8316Z0T device as the simplest device for trapezoidal control. It is rated for 40-V abs max and 8-A peak current and uses 1 PWM signal for PWM frequency and duty cycle, which can be generated with a small IC (such as a MSP430FR2000) or 555 timer. As long as nSLEEP is pulled high and DRVOFF is tied to GND, the device should start spinning the motor at the fixed duty cycle / PWM frequency when the battery is turned on.

    Thanks,
    Aaron

  • Hi

Can you recommend a sensorless type product?

    I found MCF8316A and MCT8316Z, but I think I need an MCU.

    I need stand-alone & sensorless.

    Thanks

  • Hi David,

You can use MCT8316A1V (I2C variant of MCT8316A) for evaluation with I2C using MCU, then move over to hardware variant MCT8316A1T. It includes sensorless trapezoidal with fast startup and current wave shaping to reduce noise, which is crucial for key features required for applications like fuel pumps. We have the MCT8316AEVM and samples available now.  I believe we have H/W variant as well for the EVM and samples on ti.com.

When do you plan on beginning production? If its after 2Q22, then MCT8316B1T will be released for production samples.

    Thank you,
    Aaron
