DRV3245Q-Q1: motor predriver single phase availability

Part Number: DRV3245Q-Q1

Hello,

I'm working with DRV3245Q-Q1 and from the documentation I don't understand clearly what happens when I lose a phase (e.g. open of motor phase):
- predriver set only a warning to uc? OR
- predriver 'switch off' all phases?

Can I still use the other 2 phases, to perform a simplify control of the motor, in case the driver detects the failure?
Also is it possible in case of internal failure?

Thanks in advance for all the support
Nicolò

  • Nicolo,

Thanks for posting on the MD E2E forum.

The DRV3245 does not have the ability to detect if the motor phase is open circuit assuming the GH/GL/SH/SL connections are still connected as normal.

Using the CSA and your MCU you can detect if the phase current is abnormal and then you can use the MCU to shut down the phase that has the issue, or shut down all phases safely with your own method.
