DRV10983: The chip is not working

Part Number: DRV10983
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV10974, DRV11873,

Hi Team,

This is the schematic. The customer only gives PWM through the SPEED pin, but the motor does not rotate after PWM is given, and there is no output from W U V. Could you possibly check what happened and share your suggestion?

Thanks,

Annie

  • Hello Annie,

Thanks for the info. I reviewed the schematic and for the most part it looks good I do not see any major issues. My concern is that this might be a tuning issue and the customer did not connect the I2C connections SDA and SCL.

Can the customer provide their EEPROM configuration?

Also here is the tuning guide for this device if the customer would like to review: http://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/slou395d

  • Hi Isaac,

The customer did not configure the EEPROM, all are default. Does the default setting not work? DRV10983 is now powered by 12V. He originally used DRV11873PWPR, the motor can work normally.

    Best regrads,

  • Hello Annie,

DRV10983 is a more complex device than DRV11873 which requires some tuning and configuration in order to operate properly. If they are looking for something closer to the DRV11873 then DRV10974 would be a closer fit.

Other than that the customer would need to read the registers and identify what fault is preventing their device from running and make any changes to the device configuration. They can also purchase a DRV10983EVM to use along with the GUI and configure the device as needed in order to run their motor. These changes configuration changes can then be applied to their system in order to configure the device properly. I would refer to the tuning guide I linked above in order to help them configure the device properly if they are able to communicate with the device on the board or if they purchase an EVM.

    Best,

    Isaac
