DRV8244-Q1: Maximum IPROP current

Hi team,

I couldn't find information of the maximum current from IPROP pin.

The EC table shows the current scaling factor of IPROP function is tested up to 8.3A.

I don't think 8.3A / A = 8.3A / 4570(HVSSOP) = 1.8mA is a acceptable maximum current from IPROP pin because this device can handle 21A.

Could you please check the maximum current from IPROP pin?

Customer wants to set the ITRIP function at 15A. So, IPROP current < 8.3A is not enough for it.

I am checking with system team. I agree, device should be able to handle more current, so not quite understanding that specification.

I am sorry for the delay. Please see below:

AIPROPI has been tested only up to 8.3 A. But the parameter still holds good at higher currents and IPROPI will function as intended. We chose to list 8.3A as the test limit as the device can support that level of transient current up to a typical 1 sec duration use case. For lower transients, the device can certainly support higher currents.

Hi Ryan-san,

I understand DRV8244-Q1 supports IPROP sensing function up to 21A with some duration restriction.

The device supports 8.3A in 1sec usecase. Customer wants to set ITRIP regulation at 15A for inrush current protection. So, how much duration does DRV8244-Q1 support for 15A? I couldn't find the relation between the current and the duration above 11.9A from Table 7-1.

There is a thermal calculator online in the product folder that will answer that question. Please find under "tools".

Hi Ryan-san,

I checked the tool, but I was not sure how to determine the capable duration for 15A.

Customer does not intend to drive 15A with PWM control in steady state. The 15A will flow as an inrush current and they wants to monitor it with IPROP pin.

So, they wants to know how much duration can DRV8244-Q1 support. How do I use to calcurate the duration with the tool?
